Lollapalooza Day 2: Empire of the Sun!!
This was a set that I definitely did not want to miss this weekend, and as I made it down into the tiny photo pit, I began to realize that I was not the only one who felt this way. A DJ was keeping the crowd warm (well steaming really) and dancing frantically before Empire even took the stage, and it was clear that this was going to be something a little different from the other Lolla sets that day. If you have walked into Perry’s at any time you know what I mean, and this was Perry’s at its peak. Security personnel did their best to keep the sweat drenched crowd hydrated, constantly going back for more and more waters that they reached over the rail and poured into the mouths of grateful audience members. The crowd was ready for something special, and when Empire took the stage, they got it.
The live version of Empire made its first appearance ever in the states when it stopped in Chicago this weekend for its Lolla set, so no one knew what to expect from the crew. The full band, complete with dancers, costumes and a fittingly extravagant stage setup delivered an energetic set that left everyone in the crowd wanting more.
Neil Young Embarks on 13 City North American Tour with Three Dates in Texas
Legendary musician Neil Young is set to embark on a 13 date tour dubbed the “Twisted Road” tour that will span much of the east coast before finishing up with three shows in Texas. In lieu of playing stadiums or more traditional concert venues, the shows for this solo tour will be held in some of the nation’s top performing arts venues. Young’s most recent live performances leading up to this tour have come on the final episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and the 2010 Closing Ceremonies of the Olympic games.
This special solo, acoustic tour will give fans the opportunity to see Young in an intimate setting and, according to a press release about the tour, will afford them the opportunity to hear not-yet-released tracks from the legendary musician. British folk legend Bert Jansch will be opening all dates on the tour. Young’s trio of shows in Texas is a special treat for fans when you consider the fact that it has been seven years since he played in the state. His last Texas show was with Crazy Horse at Willy’s Picnic in 2003. During this run of dates, he will play Jones Hall in Houston, Bass Performance Hall in Austin, and Meyerson Syphony Center in Dallas, the tour’s final date. See below for a complete list of the dates for the tour.
Neil Young’s long, meandering career is a marvel to behold. The legendary musician has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on two separate occasions, once for his body of work as a solo artist and once as a member of Buffalo Springfield. His contributions as a solo artist and as a member of bands such as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young; Buffalo Springfield; and Crazy Horse have produced some of the most well known and beloved folk songs in history, and his music has influenced those far outside of the folk genre including Nirvana and Pearl Jam amongst others. If you have to opportunity to be a part of this special event, take advantage of it. This doesn’t come along every day. Tickets for Neil Young’ s Houston date at Jones Hall will be available here on April 17 at 10am from Front Gate Tickets.

LCD Soundsystem Announce North American Tour
Dance rockers LCD Soundsystem have announced a string of North American tour dates that will take them from their hometown of New York to Manchester, Tennessee for a performance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. In March, James Murphy announced via the LCD Soundsystem website that the band was releasing their highly anticipated new album in May. He followed this up by revealing the new album art for the upcoming release, and now the band has announced a string of North American tour dates in support of This is Happening, the new record from LCD.
The band is also doing a series of videos (see below) that offer a bit of insight into the recording process of the new record. Looks fun to me! Here are all the dates in their full glory complete with a date at Stubb’s that goes on sale this week! Follow us on Twitter and stay tuned on Facebook for the link to buy tickets to the show.

Robert Plant Embarks on US Tour With a Stop at Stubb’s in Austin!
Robert Plant has confirmed plans to embark on a 12-city North American tour this summer with three stops in Texas, including one at Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater. This tour will feature some special talent in the form of a new band whose members include Patty Griffin, Darrel Scott, Byron House, Marco Giovini and Buddy Miller.
If that doesn’t get your mouth watering, then you may just want to go back to listening to your Justin Bieber album. The band will play material from the new Rounder album on the tour that will kick off July 13 in Memphis, TN. Stay tuned for news of the Stubb’s date on sale. Tickets will be available through stubbs.frontgatetickets.com starting March 31. I plan to post a link on Facebook and Twitter that day as a reminder, so just rest easy.
